Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce shows support to Garden City retailers: Althea Robinson (second from right), Executive Director, Garden City Chamber of Commerce join E. Christopher Murray (middle), the President of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce along with other Council Members to recognize the impact that downtown business districts have on the Long Island economy and their importance to the communities they support during this holiday season and all year long.”Small businesses provide personal attention to shoppers that the national retailers which populate the malls cannot. The local retailer does not view its patrons merely as customers, but as partners in a community that they support. For that reason the downtown merchant supports little league, soccer teams, fraternal organization and underwrites local scholarship projects. If the remaining downtown business districts across Long Island were to disappear in these difficult economic times, the fallout on local municipal budgets would be devastating,” said Murray.
